I rarely use a dry towel to dry myself after a shower. No, it isn’t any weird fetish I have for wet towels. But to-be-honest, using a dry fresh towel would make me feel -wait for it, you won’t believe it – SELFISH and GUILTY! My husband and kids HATE using a wet towel and most of the time, when I would go for a bath, there would be only one dry towel left. And I would leave it for whoever was coming next. You see, like any family-loving-woman, I have programmed myself to believe that “I” came SO behind in my own priority list, that “I” was not worthy of the smallest luxury of a dry towel.

Guilt and judgement – eternal co-travelers of a woman’s life!

  • Thinking of eating that last piece of cake without leaving it for the kids? Then you would be defined as Selfish-gluttonous-mom.
  • If you send your infant kid to day care and go to work, then the term Selfish-career-oriented-b*tch.
  • Just imagine if you decided to stay home for the kids, then the tagline would be Selfish-good-for-nothing-burden-to-her-family woman.
  • Imagine a day you feeding family food from the fridge. Oh! Then you are coined, Selfish-lazy-bad-mom-and-wife.
  • You taking a day out just by yourself or with your friends, then general gossip would be that you are a Selfish-women-who-doesn’t-care-for-her family.

Turn right? Selfish.

Turn left? Selfish.

Stood still? SELFISH SELFISH SELFISH!!!

I know that we all know at least one woman who is a wife, sister, daughter or mother. We have left her small 15 inch wide shoulders to take up the burden of the dreams of a whole generation, while she suppressed all of hers under her mom pooch and stretch marks. And we sat and judged her for those too! Sara’s is the story of the one who decided that her shoulder was ONLY meant to hold the head that dreamt and sprouted the arms that would make her fly. Anna Ben nailed the character well.

As a woman, I loved the message and the movie that women have a right to choose to have a baby without the society defining it. The movie travels a neutral line while holding up a mirror on how we judge women, no matter what she chooses. The punch line by doctor (Siddique) who actually says, “Better Not to Be a Parent than be a Bad Parent”. It kind of reminds us of all the parents who never knew how to be a good parent. I wish it was a bit faster paced, the movie lost its momentum somewhere halfway. But by the end, Jude Anthany Joseph & team tied it up in a nice and neat package. Good acting, some cool cameos nice music and a great story! Prasanth N – polichutta (a way of saying super-cool in Malayalam)!

The best part of the movie was, unlike us humans in real life the reel life humans were TOTALLY non-judgmental…every character played that well. It was heart-warming yet inspirational, so much that, it may make you want to use the-dry-towel or eat-that-cake when you get the chance!!! Go watch it if you still haven’t…

I didn’t feel that ‘Sara’s’ is a movie conveying an enlightening message. It’s just a simple story of a pedophobic couple, their orthodox family, an accidental pregnancy and an abortion. I think the script and the characters lacks depth. The Jude anthany film making magic in ‘Om shanthi Oshana’ seems lost somewhere. Well dressed characters, colorful frames, and an over rated so called ‘message’.
