Hell or Heaven

hell or heaven poem by Aditi Bajaj

Waking up at seven

looking at the news

“Eight killed, five injured,

in an elaborate kidnapping ruse.”

Traveling to work

Stopping at the red light

inhaling enough smoke

keeping the road out of sight!

Children begging

for food and water

Vehicles honking,

to reach their destinations faster…

But only to go sit

in their air-conditioned office

To provide even more profits

to the rich and the lawless!

Humans fight over

everything they can…

Faith, belief

Money and land!

Making endless demands

Is a part of human nature

But they enjoy it the most

when the poor do all the labor!

We never give a thought

About all who suffers

But we always make sure

To have clothes of every color!

Everyone prays to go to heaven

But humans don’t belong there

Yet we can’t go to hell

Because we’re already there!

Some people pray everyday: “It is in dying, that we are are born to eternal life.”
When am I able to kill my ego and selfishness?
Is the hope of “HEAVEN” a slow poison that kills my humanness and empathy here on earth?
No one can alone go to either HELL or heaven because no one can escape from the OTHER…
I appreciate your thought-provoking and challenging poem.
‘It is in loving, that we create a HEAVEN on earth’…
